I have to set up a simple wireless network

PC is on one side of the room - phone point on another and I cannot run
cables over.

I will get a Wanadoo ADSL modem - but what other kit do I need?

If anyone is already doing this and has models of kit they can advise it
would be appreciated

Cheers in advance

Avoid Wanadoo if possible, they have a poor rep for customer service
(and they might be capped as well). As for kit you might want to look
at this:

http://tinyurl.com/7x5zl

though I have to admit eBuyer have a patchy rep for customer service
as well.

USB wireless adapters take more resources than PCI wireless cards but
this one is free and since all the kit's from Netgear all the bits
should talk to each other ok.

O and for more advice you might try

This one work fine for me, and very reliable. As the guy above said
Wanadoo is very poor with customer service and there connections are
unavailable a larger % of the time compared to such as BT or free
online.

Right Mr Prejudice!...Wanadoo might not be the best on customers servies but
you are inventing their downtime. The technical quality of their sevice is
pretty first rate!

I scanned down that, but didn't see this mentioned...but is that a USB2
dongle? As it's worth pointing out if your PC only has USB1.1

Yeah it is a USB2 job as it can support more that 11MB/s (108 to be
precise)
That won't stop you using it if you only have usb1.1, but rather
defeats the point of buying a 108MB/s router in the first place. You'll
simply be restricted to 11 MB/s instead.

Good point. I believe that the PC in question only has 1.1 - in that case I
will use a PCI-card

Many thanks for all this information. I am ashamed to admit that previous to
this I knew next to nothing about wireless networking.

So, all I need to do is buy the kit as per your example - set this up and
ensure a connection across the room - and then install the ISP software off
a CD?

Thanks for your help, again

2 things
1. A Wireless router with ADSL modem, plugged into said phone point.
2. A wireless card/adapter for your PC.

Something like this?

Many more such bundles available for not a lot of cash.
