I think it's bloody superb! Much much better than anything Ulead come
up with. I'd spring for the extra AC-3(2.0) plug in, though it is a pain
keep phoning home once a month to revalidate itself, so if you haven't
got a net connection on the PC you edit on you can't use the AC-3 part.
It also only edits down to key frame level, not any frame. Apart from
that I don't think there's anything better for the money.

I'll second that. It's running now dropping some Simpson eps on to dvd
for a guy at work. One of the best bits of dvd s/w I've got.

Can you custome build menus?

I seem to remember it had some fixed templates, and I wanted to use a
backround image with just a chapters and play all button, but couldn't
have that option.

Indeed it does. IF you're prepared to put in the effort to climb the learning curve.

Yeah, sorry about that. I thought it was much more expensive, something
like £400. Must've been thinking of something else.

Seconded. I use it in conjunction with Womble MPEG2VCR which does a
frame level cut then saves a new MPEG without re-encoding, a matter of
seconds for a 4gb MPEG. This then goes into TMPGEnc DVD Author (with
AC3 Plug-in).

fantastic bit of software

Very simple to use, and the menus aren't quite as preset as in V1.0,
and provided you use something like SVCD2DVD to spoof SVCD headers to
make TMPG think they're actually DVD compliant then the rest of it is
pretty much drag n drop.

For power of use I prefer DVD Lab, which will take SVCDs at face value
with just a warning message, but it does sometimes have issues with
transcoding audio - yesterday I had to spend 10 hours with TMPEG
converter to get a couple of files into a state DVD Lab was happy
with. They both come with free fully functional trials, so try them
both and see which you're happiest with - either one is streets ahead
of ULead :-)

I use TMPGEnc, it's easy to use and the results are amazing,
you can make your own menus or simply use the templates.

I recorded a few tv shows on my standalone then re-authored
them with TMP and editing out the crap was so easy. when
doing this you have the option of creating an MPEG file to edit
or just edit the dvd files.

I hate Ulead software, buggers up my PC which is why I went
for TMP. I have tried other software but I found TMP was so
simple to use which is why I bought it. <cough>
